Monday 8-27-01 saw some work in the evening. Janet Tipton reported the following:

We had an absolutely fantastic day today. 3 of us showed up to work horses, which worked out just perfect because we each got to work one and we didn't have to take turns.

Cliff and Yogi:

Cliff tried a little different approach with Yogi today. He worked him with a flag. And I couldn't believe the transformation. Yogi responded very well. Yogi challenged him a few times but easily backed down when Cliff challenged back. Cliff was able to get right up and scratch his neck, shoulders and to the base of his ears. And Yogi was actually relaxing with it.

Jackie and Moose:

Jackie started out working Moose with the bamboo pole and was able to walk up and touch Moose relatively quickly. She then went to the sliding neck loop and got a nose loop on him almost immediately. Jackie worked a lot on leading and getting to that forbidden right side. She managed to get all the way down to his shoulder and neck on his right side. She really had him leading pretty good as well. She then pulled the rope off and walked away for a minute and then tried to approach again without the pole or rope. She ended up having to just throw the rope up over his neck but no pressure was applied and she was able to approach and touch then.

Janet and Frosty:

I am just beaming. Frosty did so good tonight. I was able to approach him without anything on him. But did have to put the lead rope around his neck to get the halter on. He still seems to have a one last hold back about getting that loop over his nose. Once the halter was on we worked on leading for a little while and then out came the rubber curry. He decided he really liked that as I found the really itchy spots on either side of his neck. I was able to curry all the way around his belly and up over his butt. Then I grabbed the mane brush and brushed out his mane, forelock and also his tail. Then it was on to picking up feet. I was able to pick up all four feet and hold them for several seconds at a time. In fact the fronts he held up for me if I would say "foot" while rubbing down his leg.

Then for a bonus I took him for his first "stroll" outside his pen. We went for a short trip around the round pen and took some pictures and then back to his stall for the night.

We were all having so much fun that no pictures got taken until the end so Cliff is really bummed that he doesn't get to show off his progress with Yogi yet. But tomorrow we will get more pictures.
