  USE AND SAFETY OF
MUSTANG SURVIVAL MRV150 RESCUE PFDS

Updated August 13, 2020

Note: This information sheet is to provide orientation or refresher information for team members. It is not a substitute for hands-on orientation and training. In order to be certified, the wearer must be competent in properly donning and adjusting the PFD in under 60 seconds, and be competent in operating the harness (tag line) release if a tag line gets snagged. Please refer to Part One for the context of these presentations.

The Mustang Survival MRV150 personal flotation devices are only considered legal rescue flotation devices if they are properly used by persons familiar with the correct donning and use of these PFDs, including the use of the quick release tag line feature.

The vests as stored in the ISU.
Tag line ring. (Note: Tag lines must be releasable in the event the line gets snagged.)
Quick release buckle.

SETTING THE QUICK RELEASE

1. After donning and closing the PFD, run the strap through the tensioning buckle.
2. Fold the strap and buckle back and set proper (comfortable but snug) tension.
3. Lay the quick release buckle over the back-folded tensioning buckle.
4. Pass the end of the strap through the release buckle and snap it closed.
(The quick release buckle should nest securely over the tensioning buckle.)
While shore teams may still wear older style PFDs, members working in the water must wear
certified PFDs. Even with floating tag lines, the lines could get snagged and require quick release.
