Spike
Spike is the largest of the group that was brought in. The kids at the Foster Care facility called him "Simon" because whatever Simon said, the other horses did. His age is estimated at 10. As is typical of the older horses we've experienced, he's a cool customer, was very easy to approach and touch with a pole and his potential adopter Kristi, a "first timer," could soon hand feed him carrot treats and touch his nose. We didn't have the camera out when Kristi worked with Spike but we'll get some photos to post. Spike's adoption fee is currently #150.00. It will increase to $250.00 in June with halter training. Harry Trotter
Harry is a gelding estimated to be seven years old. He seems very bright but he's a little bit of weenie, always following the other horses. He was anxious at first when separated from the others but he settled down and actually focuses pretty well. Within a couple of days of work he would stand quietly for poll work and takes carrot bits by hand though the bars. He doesn't get too upset and he will probably be a very good student as soon as he figures out what we humans are all about. As a natural follower of the crowd, he shouldn't require too dominant of a handler. Harry has become the "pet" of KBR and often gets to roam the place. He hasn't been ridden but he has sported a bareback pad. His adoption fee is $250.00. Click Here to view larger photos of Harry. Harry has been adopted!

Thundercloud
Thundercloud is a 7 year old survivor of one of the more famous wild horse battles in the Virginia Highlands. Thundercloud is a smaller band stallion but he wouldn't back down from the larger stallions if they tried to steal his mares. He really met his match in the fall of 2002 when he tangled with Bubba, a big stud with one of the largest harems in the region. Bubba got the best of Thundercloud and VRWPA volunteer Sherry O'Mahoney witnessed the fight on her property. At the end Bubba was standing on the beaten Thundercloud's chest, reaching down and ripping off his ears. Sherry decided it was time to break up the fight and Bubba ran off. Eventually Thundercloud got back to his feet, calling to his mares who had been run into the hilltops by Bubba. Thundercloud gets a bit wound up when being polled and worked in the pen but he definitely learns. (We've worked him twice so far.) He will take hay from volunteers through the fence and he likes to act sassy with horses in the other paddocks. He doesn't seem mean, but he studies all the angles and could be Peck's bad boy if allowed to get spoiled. Thunder's adoption fee is currently #150.00. It will increase to $250.00 in June with halter training. Thundercloud has been adopted!

Blizzard
Blizzard is a classic bright bay mustang, well built with an intelligent looking head, shaggy mane and clear mind. He is estimated to be 10 years old. He is normally in Foster Care in Sheridan, CA, however he came down to interact with the volunteers for a couple of weeks. Blizzard is very clear headed and doesn't get overly worked up when being approached or worked with. (We had to move Blizzard back to Foster care to make room for a couple of new arrivals but we'll continue his training when space is available.) He is available for a $150.00 adoption fee until gentled and started to halter. At that point his fee will be $250.00. Blizzard has been adopted!
