State of Nevada "Comstock" Horses

The State of Nevada typically has a backlog of horses needing adoption. Nearly all of them come from the Virginia Range, located in Storey County and part of Lyon and Washoe Counties.

LRTC is one of the state recognized adoption groups that "bails out" these animals before they run out their time in the state corrals.

Adoption fees start at $150.00 per animal.

Fish Creek (Shoshone Indian) Horses

These horses are part of the infamous roundup of the elderly Dann sisters' horses.

The horses available for adoption are from the rescue at Fish Creek where 144 starving mares with foals and weanlings had been virtually abandoned in Eureka County, NV.

All have been returned to good health and can be placed in appropriate homes.

Adoption fees start at $150.00 per animal.

Sheldon Fish and Wildlife Burros

Sheldon is a fish and wildlife preserve however it is home to a rather substantial population of rather nice looking burros believed to have originated from miners during the gold rush days.

Since they are not native wildlife, burros are gathered by FWS employees when their numbers get too large. LRTC has received a number of nice burros and burro pairs.

Adoption fees start at $150.00 per animal.

Rescue Mustangs

Occasionally an adopter is not able to keep an animal or one or more of the other adoption groups becomes "overloaded." In those instances LRTC will take in titled horses and burros for adoption when we have available space.

These animals range from weanlings to mature, from virtually unhandled to "trail experienced" riding horses.

Adoption fees start at $150.00 per animal.
Fees for halter trained animals typically start at $250.00.
Fees for saddle started animals typically start at $500.00.

A recent "rescue"

Adopters must meet minimum requirements including having corrals and shelters appropriate for holding a wild horse. In accordance with State regulations, titles for adopted horses are not issued until the adopter has properly cared for the animal for one year.
